The U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Through this system, LEED improves occupant well-being, environmental performance and economic return on buildings through use of established and innovative practices, standards, and technologies.
Syntégra uses steel as supported by the American Iron and Steel Institute, the American Institute of Steel Construction, and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries. These suppliers subscribe to tenets of steel recycling described on the online resource www.recycle-steel.org.
You’ll find details of Syntégra’s support for these initiatives below.

MR Credit 4
Recycled Content
NC / CS / S / CI
|
Intended to increased demand for building products that incorporate recycled content materials,
thereby reducing impacts resulting from extraction and processing of virgin materials. Use materials
with recycled content such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus 1/2 of the pre-consumer
content constitutes at least 10% or 20%, based on cost, of the total value of the materials
in the project. |

* Recycled content defined in accordance with industry standards.
** Pre-consumer recycled content refers to waste material that is immediately placed back into the production cycle. Waste materials generated by the production of these products are collected and shipped off-site where it then reenters the recycle system.
Materials and Resources Credit 5 Regional Materials
MR Credit 5 Regional Material
NC / CS / S / CI
|
Intended to increase demand for building materials and products that are extracted and manufactured within the region, thereby supporting the use of indigenous resources and reducing the environmental impacts resulting from transportation. Use building materials or products that have been extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500 miles of the project site for a minimum of 10% or 20%, based on cost, of the total materials value. |

Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ)
IEQ Credit 4.1 & 4.2: Low Emitting Materials: Adhesives & Sealants, Paints & Coatings
NC / CS / S / CI |
Intended to reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants that are harmful to installers and
occupants.
- Credit 4.1: Use materials with recycled content such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one half of pre-consumer content constitutes at least 10% (based on cost) of the total value of the materials used in the project
- Credit 4.2: Use materials with recycled content such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of the pre-consumer content constitutes at least 20% (based on cost) of the total value of the materials in the project

LEED for Schools Specific Credits
IEQ Credit 10:
Mold Prevention S
|
Intended to reduce the potential presence of mold in schools through preventive design and
construction measures.
- Syntégra offers their hardware components with an Anti-Microbial Coating. This natural tinted coating can be applied to our hardware and acts as an additional preventive measure to assist school projects in achieving this credit
|
LEED EBOM Specific Credits
MR Credit 3: Sustainable
Purchasing – Facility
Alterations & Additions
EBOM
|
Intended to reduce the environmental and air quality impacts of the materials acquired for use in the upgrade of buildings. Maintain a sustainable purchasing program covering materials for facility renovations, demolitions, retrofits, and new construction additions.
- Syntégra can assist in meeting this requirement
|
MR Credit 9: Solid Waste
Management – Facility
Alterations & Additions
EBOM
|
Intended to divert construction and demolition debris from disposal to landfills and incineration facilities. Redirect recyclable recovered resources back to the manufacturing process and reusable materials to appropriate sites.
- Since most of the Syntégra products have are comprised of metal, there is a potential to recycle these items infinitely. We make long-lasting sustainable products that can assist projects in attaining this credit
